Design Choices: In Frame vs Frameless Kitchens - Which is for you?

When planning your kitchen, one, of the many, decisions you will have is deciding on a Frameless or In-Frame design.

In-Frame refers to a visible frame that sits around the doors and drawer fronts whereas with a Frameless kitchen, the doors attach directly to the cabinets.

In-Frame Kitchens

In-Frame cabinets offer a more traditional look. Often paired with a Shaker Door, they are a classic choice and give off a high end look.

Due to the extra craftmanship and material needed, In-Frame kitchens are more expensive by around 30%. If you're working within a tight budget, it's important to note this cost, however In-Frame kitchens are often seen as timeless, and don't go out of style, another important consideration as kitchens are the most expensive room in the house to renovate.

Frameless Kitchens

Frameless cabinets provide a sleeker more contemporary look. This design is often associated with more modern, minimalist kitchens and door styles like flat panel and reeded work great with a Frameless kitchen.

Frameless cabinetry offers more storage space and is easier to clean. The smooth surfaces mean there are fewer corners and grooves for dirt and grease to collect.

Side by Side comparison

Aspect In- Frame Frameless
Design Traditional, High-End Sleek, Modern
Aesthetic Classic, detailed craftmanship Contemporary, seamless look
Cost More expensive (About 30%) More affordable
Storage  Slightly less, due to the frame taking space More storage space
Maintenance Harder to clean due to extra grooves Easier to clean due to smooth surfaces

In both cases, the materials, finishes, and hardware you choose can further personalise your kitchen and its design.
